Welcome to
Netetique, make yourself comfortable and take a look around.
Who am I? My name is Floreamont, Galeas Floreamont. I was born in 1478 in Sessa Aurunca, Italy. Nice to meet you, or, as we say in Italian, piacere di conoscerti.
Let me tell you something about me. I like to see myself as the father of etiquette: in fact, one of the most important books about etiquette is inspired by me. It’s called Galateo, overo de’ costumi and it’s written by my friend Monsignor Giovanni della Casa.
Things have changed since the appearance of this book, but now it’s about time to rewrite the Galateo and make it suitable for the Web. People underestimate the importance of Internet etiquette, because they seem to think that thanks to the anonymity of the Web everything is allowed.
Well, I don’t agree at all: etiquette, or galateo, is more relevant than ever when applied to Internet and the Web. Isn’t Internet one of the most powerful methods of communication that we have at our disposal nowadays? The etiquette applied to the Web is called Netiquette and it should be the first thing you learn when you use the Internet.
Netetique is born with the purpose of spreading the Netiquette all over the Web, in order to make people consider how their online behavior reflects on their reputation – online and offline. I want to focus also on the ethics of the etiquette, therefore the name Net + Etique couldn’t be more suitable to reach my purpose.
Consider this: times of anonymity are over. Now more than ever we speak about online reputation, personal branding, online identity management. Your online actions are important and it’s time that you get to know the rules and the social conventions of online behavior; I dare say that you’ve come to the right place to do it.
